That old devil called gravity

If the moon was placed further from the earth it could not orbit from that positon. With the decrease in the pull of gravity and its own momentum in a straight line in would have to find an new orbit to balance the two forces. That may not be where you had first placed the moon. Therefore certain orbits (or paths) are forbidden, and planets have to follow certain paths and can't follow others. This surely means that objects in space travel in certain paths and are forbidden others. If millions of particles of dust needed to share the same path through space, they might cluster together, without any need of an attraction between them, and appear as if attracted by gravity towards each other. This would present a problem for what gratity is. Put me out of my misery.
