The faster a planet is pulled the heavier it gets, so in some ways the planet directs its own motion, offering resistence and dictating the speed which it allows itself to go. The speed of a planet is directly related to its orbit and therefore it even decides aspects of its orbit. Since every planet does this, it means all orbits are as much affected by the planets themselves as by the pull of gravity. But admit this might be simply restating gravity in another way.
