Interesting find by Daniel.
I have always been a believer in Thomas Gold's
theory that petroleum was NOT formed by ancient forest and vegetation. Layered coal seams, yes,
since they often show leaf and plant patterns
Now that they have found these methane producing microbes that live on hydrogen deep within the Earth, Golds theory certainly looks more viable.
Plus methane continues to bubble up offshore,
inspite of undersea volcanic eruptions, which should have dissapated most of it.
Also v interesting is these microbes make up to
30% of Earths total life forms.
When the sun goes out, the microbe will rule the earth. 8^)
