Ignoring global warming has costs, he tells Commons
OTTAWA (CP) - Prime Minister Jean Chretien says he doesn't believe claims by opposition critics that complying with the Kyoto climate treaty will cost 450,000 jobs."I do not accept these figures," Chretien told acting Canadian Alliance Leader John Reynolds in the Commons today.
He said critics are ignoring the cost of doing nothing about global warming.
"There is the reality, too, that climate change is causing a lot of problems. The farmers might have to pay a price if we don't do anything about it. So we have to look at both sides of the problem."
I wonder what "problems" he thinks the farmers might face. Longer growing season? Increased yield? Lower heating costs? Lower mortality rate from exposure?
All those horrible problems could be avoided if they would only hamstring the economy with a do-nothing solution to an unlikely problem.
