A report in Phys.Org about a two legged robot that doesn't try to walk the way we do. Bipedal rethink: Who said it had to mimic mighty humans?
Basically the robot has 2 legs, but they don't have all the joints our legs do. The body of the robot is low between the legs to lower the center of balance. The legs are rigid and go up and down on rails. The legs can be canted in and out and there are ankles which allow the robot to step firmly on uneven ground.

A strange looking beast, but this is the kind of rethink we probably need to build real workable robots, at least for now.
