Somebody over at Oklahoma State University did a study of peoples attitudes towards various food related issues. They included a bunch of situations headed by the question "Do you support or oppose the following government policies" They included:
- A tax on sugared sodas 39%
- A ban on the sale of marijuana 47%
- A ban on the sale of food products
made with transfats 56% - A ban on the sale of unpasteurized
milk 59% - Calorie limits on school lunches 64%
- Mandatory calorie labels on
restaurant menus 69% - Mandatory labels on food
containing DNA 80% - Mandatory labels on foods produced
with genetic engineering 82% - Mandatory country of origin
labels for meat 84% - A requirement that school lunches
must contain two servings
of fruits and vegetables 87%
According to the author of the study they threw in a number of 'ad hoc' questions that are only asked once. So the question about DNA wasn't intended to be a serious question. It does raise some questions about peoples knowledge of biology.
