Over 78,000 people have already applied for Mars One Project
And they all know its a one way trip, with no return to Earth.

However the "Mars One Project" is due to land its first planetary immigrants on Mars in 2023, along with all the life support and facitities for keeping everyone alive.
Additional life supporting supplies will be dropped, at least
every two years, until the Martian Colony becomes fully self-sustaining.

***My Thoughts are-
If it really does happen, I expect a number countries to get in on the act, to help out.

It might not happen so soon because of the very fine dust

A conventional filter would not prevent the dust from entering a persons lungs, as it would clog everything pretty quickly.

Prehaps an Electrostatic filter fitted within the living quarters?
Seems like Martian dust will put back this project for at least a decade.

That may indeed be a problem. But at the same time, if we have the technology to send people to Mars, then I don't think it would take an extreme effort to protect people from the dust. As you say an electrostatic filter might do it. Or how about a wet filter. A very thin film of water could catch a whole lot of dust. I'm sure that there are a lot of people out there who will immediately think of all kinds of creative ways to solve the problem.

I agree , a centrifugal type of filter would work.

kind of like the new vacuum cleaners use.

because the tiny particles should be heavier than air.

and even if the particles are lighter than air it should still work.

as long as there is a weight difference between the air and the particles that centrifugal forces would apply to.

Well dust or no dust, the first 50 people, out of the 78,000
who wish to go on the 'one way trip to Mars' in 2023, have met in Washington
I believe there are two or three women volunteers among the 50
as well

I think the major concern should be the martians who are
already there , this is why it is a one way trip correct?

they dont want the martians to get their hands on a return trip vehicle that they could use to travel to earth.

after all the martians were stupid enough to destroy their own atmosphere to the point that they had to colonize the earth
in the first place.'

so not having a means of returning to earth may be a really good
choice knowing that the martians obviously were technologically advanced well beyond the earthlings of today.

which means that by now the genetically modified foods that
they were eating has had plenty of time to change the martians
into extremely adaptable beings , they may have even become
something more akin to bacteria over the long span of years.

and when the martians first colonized the earth they may have also
taken precautions to prevent life from earth from reaching mars.
