Now THAT was a cool illusion. Got any explanation for it? I think I know why I see what I see, I just want to know if I'm right or not.

The green is an after-image. The rods or cones or whatever that were taking in the pink colors become somewhat exhausted, so when the pink image goes away the remaining color sensors have a stronger relative input, so your brain registers a negative image.

The apparent disappearance of the pink dots I leave to you as a corollary exercise.

Crank's explanation is similar to the way such illusions were explained to me when I was a kid. Some chemical reaction or another that occurs in the retina uses up the chemical that makes us sense "pink." The *opposite color* is then perceived, or something like that.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. For now.

I have alway liked the unconstructable objects:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_illusions

Paradox illusions offer objects that are paradoxical or impossible, such as the Penrose triangle or impossible staircases seen, for example, in the work of M. C. Escher. The triangle is an illusion dependent on a cognitive misunderstanding that adjacent edges must join. They occur as a byproduct of perceptual learning.
