The tallest freestanding building in the world (828-meter) has been shut down, just six weeks after its official opening (Jan4'10).
At its opening ceremony it was renamed 'Burj Khalifa' in deference to UAE president Sheik Khalifa,
who I believe pumped in $20 billion in bailout funds, when real estate prices plunged.
And the reason for the shutdown? One of the lifts trapped 15 people in the lift in between floors (125-124).
In the observation deck, another 60 people were trapped, since there is only one lift that serves the observation area.
The Obsevation Deck is situated 2/3 up the Burj.
No reports as to when it might reopen.
