Recently Phys.Org has had 2 articles about small inexpensive fusion reactors that are in work.

The first is UW fusion reactor concept could be cheaper than coal.

The seconds is from Lockheed Lockheed Martin pursues compact fusion reactor concept

Lockheed hopes to have a prototype running in 5 years. The prototype would be able to sustain a fusion reaction for 10 seconds. That doesn't sound very long but it is way more than anything that is in work right now. If they can get that then it will be a huge step towards a real fusion energy source.

Of course fusion energy has been 10 years away for about 50 years now.

Crap , I just finished a free energy machine built from 2 soup cans
bad timing I suppose. I guess I could fuse them together to make it sound important.

Are the cans empty? If so your work could have a lot in common with the "5 years promise".

Go for the fusion option. Fuse the open ends so no one will know what you are up to. Great science.

Wow! Japan has fusion? That's news to me. I didn't know anyone had controlled fusion. Now that Germany is getting into the act it will be interesting to see what happens on this side of the water. Maybe there will be some money shaken loose for Fusion research here.
