Hundreds of socialists, environmentalists and climate activists attended the first Ecosocialist Conference in New York City last month. One of the featured speakers at the conference was Jill Stein, the nominee of the Green Party during the 2012 national election in the US, who held a talk about how capitalism is killing the planet.

Capitalism isn't killing the planet , free trade is what is killing the planet.

free trade can be rounded down to greed / profit no matter what
excuses you hear or have heard.

globalization is nothing more than slavery of the masses geared
toward greed / profit.

Capitalism is better than most forms of government because it
allows advancement of individuals , without Capitalism the only
choices you will have will be determined by the communist or socialist rulers.

China is a communist nation.
China would not have a dime without Capitalism.
China could not exist without Capitalism.

the United States is not communist ( its mostly Capitalist ).
the United States does not have a dime because of the globalist free trade.
the United States can exist without free trade.

in fact the United States would quickly prosper without the
globalist induced free trade because of Capitalism.

because of Capitalism!

but we would have to vote or kick the globalist out of office
and change the trade laws in order to prosper once again.

Capitalism?

About what kind of capitalism are we talking, eh? As we say in--C eh!, N eh! D eh!... Canada, ... eh?

The selfish kind?

Or, the democratic kind? Let us be more specific, eh!

Me? I like to think it is possible to be a democratic capitalist who appreciates the values of democratic socialists. We can work together, eh?

I don't know 'why?' capitalism is killing the planet, as in "what is the motivation for capitalism?"--- unless the answer is is obvious one--- greed. However I agree that capitalism is, in conjunction with its cousin globalisation, in fact ruining the lives of many on our planet.

A financial system that puts the possession of individual, personal wealth for some, ahead of the welfare of all its citizens, is a callous system, and bound to fail eventually.

Interesting how capitalism is being linked to earth's destruction.

But thinking of it, it makes sense.
