This is the Origins Board where I guess any inanity is acceptable. But has anyone else noticed that a Science forum has paid advertising at the bottom of the page such as:

"Christianity
Free to Join. 1000's of pictures Of Beautiful Christian Singles
www.loveandseek.com"

"God loves you
How to know that God loves you
www.GodLovesTheWorld.com"

and my personal fav.

"Learn Voodoo Powers
Voodoo is Real.
The power can be yours to control all others."

Gee Kate? Couldn't you get a tobacco company to subsidize this? Or maybe a couple of hookers from out by the airport? If you are that desparate i'll send you a couple of bucks if you ask.

I guess I haven't seen the adverts because I never take the time to scroll down that far. I don't pay any attention to the ads in general, no matter where I am on the net. They are just so much background noise to me. I'm too busy to read ads, I only notice them when they interfere with my (slow, old) laptop's ability to transfer to another web site. The worst are the animated ones; they tie up my processor something fierce!

I don't normally notice them but this morning I did. They sort of undercut any claim that there is anything serious at SAGG.

Seriously Kate. Send me your address and I'll shoot you $5.00 USD if things are that bad that you need to pimp for "Beautiful Christian Singles" that can't get a date.

Somehow using your religion to set yourself up on dates seems hypocritical to me. I would think if you wanted to meet Christians or any religious persuasion you would join volunteer groups that do good work as per the tenets of that religion.

Perhaps I am being optimistic and silly however.

Hypocrisy large enough to be measured on the Richter Scale.

And the criteria for being a "Beautiful Christian Single" ... you say you are one. What a wonderful testimonial. I say I am ... therefore I am.

My criteria for a date ... someone that I can take to dinner, and after one hour of conversation, leaves me with the impression that they might be just as interesting to talk to an hour later.

I looked at the Homepage - (just for research purposes I tell you).

I bet not one of those models on there have ever had to use the site. They should put up some normal cock-eyed people.

It's as bad as the phone sex lines - they don't fool me with their adverts showing stunning women reclining suggestively as they stare deep into the camera and make you believe that they could be your girl.

In fact I just know that I'm really talking to an obese woman with a combined BO and acne problem. Ah, but I still keep phoning.

Oops smile

Aren't you married?
Posted By: Blacknad Re: Has anyone else noticed? - 03/16/06 06:14 PM
Rob,

Yes I am. On the off-chance that you really thought I was serious - I wouldn't use phone-sex lines even if I was single, and the same goes for dating services (I have the wherewithall to actually meet people).

I suppose though that I would consider taking a job as a phone sex girl and in my softest most seductive voice would whisper things like, 'Oh yeah, that's it big-boy, you like that don't you...for God so loved the world.....click.'

Phone-sex evangelist - I like the idea, only slightly more ridiculous that Tele-evangelists.

For your benefit Rob, I'm joking again.

So basically, Blacknad, you are saying that the people running the Christian web site are unrepentent liars.

Add that my list of complaints about people using religion in a vain attempt to cover gross hypocrisy.

- Well, I probably wouldn't go that far. To be unrepentant they would need to know they were doing wrong and yet still be unwilling to make a change.

I just suspect these people are caught up as the rest of society is with image, especially if they were responsible for the strap line in the ad - 'meet beautiful Christians'. The church has in better times been more interested in the substance of people, as opposed to how beautiful they are.

Wow, very forgiving Blacknad.

I did not look at the site but do the site hosters know 100% that all the people on the site are Christians? What do they charge to be put on the site? I can tell you they do not care if they are wrong because they are out to make money which is the one thing that negates morals for many people.

Unrepentent means they have not yet repented and changed their ways. The fact that they may be oblivious to the teachings of their religion does not absolve them of responsibility for their actions.

No doubt as Lillith points out ... they give everyone a test of religious knowledge, collect and verify testamonial letters affirming faith, and throw anyone off the site if a date reports the person tried a bit of snogging.

And then we can ask how many frights are being advertised as beautiful when they clearly are not.

Blacknad this site is no different from almost all aspects of organized religions. Pay the cost of admission and you will never be thrown out.

Do you recall the person arrested last year in Kansas as the BTK (Bind Torture Kill) murderer? Do you recall his relationship with his church? That's right ... he was a leader. And he was hardly an exception. Churches are the first refuge of many a scoundrel. Why? Because parishoner are taught to follow rather than lead. Taught to accept rather than question. Taught to follow, like sheep to the slaughter, their spiritual, and all-to-human, leaders.
