can someone please explain too me,how we can all sit here banging on about (and come on people lets all admit it )personal issues and all our other self righteous nonsense when its plain too anyone that our collective actions are destroying everything around us,i personally think that we as a species have over complicated everything and have made knowledge an asset rather than seeing it as a path to oneness .let me give an example E=mc2 means absolutely nothing to most people, why?,because it has not been explained properly yet einsteins physics are taught in every school you can think of(apart from those freaked out faith schools that preach faith as well as knowledge)am i the only person who thinks that is scary?

You're right..."we as a species have over complicated (lets add polluted) everything"

Time to clean up and clarify...everything I guess smile

No need to guess Justine.

We've been running amok here for 10,000+ years as top predator on the planet and have yet to solve even the most basic of problems.

And if you don't believe me feel free to discuss it with the Armenians in Turkey, the Jews in Germany, the Tutsis in Rwanda, and the tribes in Darfur, Sudan.

we've known how to complicate things for 10000 years, but the kiss principle is not nearly that old. it will take some time and dedicated effort to change.

You really think so Dehammer?

Look at the way we are shaping the world...

Example - we are currently seeing a massive transfer of power away from governments (where at least people have a fighting chance with their vote) to huge impersonal corporations that make self centred decisions based entirely upon profit.

See Amaranth's link to see just how wise and benevolent corporations are (not breaking news for you, I'm sure):

I wish I could be as positive as you but I'm sitting in a Country that appears to be sinking into the mire:

ONE in ten teenage schoolboys has carried some kind of gun in the past year, according to the largest study on the impact of Britain?s firearms culture on urban youth.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1679975,00.html

And...

- 11-12 year olds carrying knives last year
: 10%

- 15-17 year olds admitting to carrying knives for self defence
: 46%

- Pupils in London Schools carrying knives
: 29%

- Excluded Pupils carrying knives
: 62%

- 16 year old boys admitting attacking someone with a knife - intent on causing serious injury
: 1 in 5

I could sit here all night pointing out the negative trends in the UK. If we can't even treat each other properly then why imagine we can expend the time and energy to save this planet from ruin?

We should do everything we can - but I'm just not confident we will get there.

what makes you think anything of this is new. maybe its new in the UK, but much of that sounds like the American west, updated with new weapons and computers. some day you need to check out the info on railroad barons. they are strikingly similar to the present day corporation, the biggest difference being the communication factor, and the amount of regulation they complain about.

it has to be done one person at a time, and it may take centuries. that is if the human race survives.

I think we don't really have an argument on this issue : )

Do not feel forsaken!

Nature will clean up out act for us and eliminate as many as half of us. Unfortunately Nature does not distinguish between who should live and who should be recycled.

At least more people are paying attention to Global warming these days.

And we do still have a vote...we just vote with our dollars instead of the ballot. Notice there are more organic choices in the supermarkets smile People ARE buying the low voltage light bulbs and asking about hybrid cars and better mileage.

The gas prices rising will end up helping the common person to curb their oil addiction. My state is raising electric costs 50 to 75% this year. If we survive we'll be better for it.

Are these steps the beginning of turning things around??? Or too little too late..that I'm waiting to see.

You know how every so often our Christian Radio Stations focus on particular issues..how do we get them to start playing the environment card? There's gotta be some good passages in the Bible that support the environment? And peace, for that matter. That would be really cool, if one of the heads of American Christianity started trumpeting for world peace. Yeah, I'd really like to see that. If those two issues could become core conservative issues, family values, that would be nice.

Justine asks:
"how do we get them to start playing the environment card?"

Pay them in cash.
Tell them that it is favoured by corporate CFOs.
Tell them it will make Hillary Clinton livid.
Tell them if they do so they get free Viagra.

Given 2000 years of Christian history how many times in those 20 millenia can you point to historical fact and demonstrate that they made a clear difference in anything that lasted more than one or two generations?

They are an abyssmal failure at everything except their true purpose ... which is what they do quite well ... control people's actions in public.
