sometimes I truly believe that scientist don't want to actually
accomplish any type of breakthrough process that would have an
impact on energy due to the fears that research money would be
brought to a halt.

Back in the early1970s I was one of a team of 10 who walked a 1,000 miles relay through Britain. When I took the first step I had done something like 1.7x10^-4% of the walk. There were those who thought we would never make it, but we did.

Perhaps the same can be said of this project; perhaps those who scoff at the first step can console themselves with the thought that they may never see it come to fruition, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will not.

back in the 1970's I first learned about photo cells and their
ability to produce electricity from a source of light.

back then I thought that within a few decades we would all
be using electricity generated mostly from sunlight.

and we could have done it.

I would say that the average home today uses less than 1% of
electricity generated from sunlight.

you see it doesn't matter if it will work or not.
what matters is how much money / influence is against its use.

You will see no argument from me on that point, but I don't think it detracts from the fact that starting small is not necessarily an indication of future failure.

lets take the energy market today for instance , Russia's
vast oil supplies and their future economy would be at risk
if someone were capable of bringing a process such as this
one into use.

no one would need to buy gasoline refined from crude oil ever
again.

the economy of the U.S. wouldn't be that much affected by it
because we import our energy.

countries such as Saudi Arabia on the other hand along with Venezuela etc
would experience a dramatic strain on their countries economies.

these economic strains would possibly lead to world war as
these countries beef up their economies by building their
military.

these factors are probably not discussed in the book you
suggested.

unless there is a world war that will force the use of
alternate energy / free energy into use due to energy
shortages then I cant see oil being replaced until its
no longer available in the ground.

that's why I say it doesn't matter if it will or will not
work , what matters is the money / influence against its use.

now with that said , why cant we in the U.S. just drill
through the earth until we reach the vast Russian oil supplies.

It's not a book about success and failure, it's about randomness in the cosmos. Along the way he touches on things like Lagrangian Points, micromorts and the Harry Potter phenomenon.
