220 - 190 = ____________

step (1) since 220 is not a friendly number we need to make it
a friendly number by taking 20 away to round the number to the nearest hundred ,which leaves us with a
friendly 200

step (2) since 190 is not a friendly number we need to make it
a friendly number by giving it 10 more to round the number to the nearest hundred , which leaves us with a
friendly 200

step (3) we place the numbers that we give and take in a basket that holds our unfriendly numbers.

step (4) we subtract the friendly numbers 200 from 200
which leaves us with zero friendly numbers.
if there are any numbers left we put them in the unfriendly
numbers basket.

step (5) the basket of unfriendly numbers removes any positive
or negative signs away from all numbers as the numbers enter the unfriendly numbers basket.

step (6) we now take the unfriendly numbers out of the basket of unfriendly numbers 1 at a time and we add them together as
a group and we assign the group as being properly programmed as a group of positive numbers.

we have destroyed our friendly numbers and what we have left is numbers that have been reprogrammed to be positive numbers.

as long as we find the friendly numbers and show that they are the numbers that need to be destroyed we will pass the test even if our final answers are incorrect.

220 - 190 = 30

this way we can create more jobs for people who are involved
in the education industry , tutoring industry , math test industry , printing industry etc , what difference will
it make just as soon as the new jobs are created they will
be outsourced to china or wherever labor cost are lowest.

32-12 = _______

32 becomes 30 , 8 goes in the unfriendly basket.
12 becomes 10 , 2 goes in the unfriendly basket.

30 - 10 = 20 , the unfriendly basket will not accept numbers less than ten unless both numbers are less than 5 , in which case the numbers become reprogramed as being negative numbers.
-------------------------------------

39-12 = _______

39 becomes 40 , 1 goes in the unfriendly basket.
12 becomes 10 , 2 goes in the unfriendly basket.

40 - 10 = 30 the unfriendly basket will not accept numbers less than ten unless both numbers are less than 5 , in which case the numbers become reprogramed as being negative numbers.

(30 + (-3)) = 27

--------------------------------------

456 - 25 = _______

456 becomes 56 , 400 goes in the unfriendly basket.
25 becomes 30 , 5 goes in the unfriendly basket.

56 - 30 = 26 , 26 goes in the unfriendly basket.

400 + 5 + 26 = 431

Be reasonable, Paul; with questions like this one, it’s my kind of maths!

"Juanita wants to give bags of stickers to her friends. She wants to give the same number of stickers to each friend. She’s not sure if she needs 4 bags or 6 bags of stickers. How many stickers could she buy so there are no stickers left over?"

The obvious answer is “none”.

What could be more friendly?

wouldnt the correct answer be "6 bags" !!

Quote:
Juanita wants to give bags of stickers to her friends.

it doesnt say

Juanita wants to give each of her friends a bag of stickers.

Quote:
She wants to give the same number of stickers to each friend.

hopefully each bag of stickers has the same number of stickers
in it.

so she needs to give at least 2 bags of stickers to each friend because giving each friend
only 1 bag of stickers would not be giving "bags of stickers" to her friends.

Quote:
She’s not sure if she needs 4 bags or 6 bags

so she only has 2 or 3 friends.

2 friends x 2 bags = 4 bags
and
3 friends x 2 bags = 6 bags

if she buys only 4 bags of stickers and she finds out somehow
that she has 3 friends then she will not have purchased enough
bags to give "bags of stickers" to each of her friends
and not have any left over.

if she buys 6 bags of stickers then she is covered because
she could give 2 friends 3 bags each.
or
she could give 3 friends 2 bags each.

common core way

1,999,999,999. - .000,000,009 = 1,999,999,998.999,999,991
using multiples of 5 or 10

.000,000,009 + 9.999999991 = 10 ( a multiple of 10 )
10 + 1,999,999,989 = 1,999,999,999

it actually works , but it requires a calculator.

and knowing what to do with the calculator.

by just looking at the above equation its simple to see the answer without using a calculator or a pen and paper.

BTW , in case you guys havent figured it out yet , the
equations I posted earlier about how to perform common
core math are fake math , it works sometimes and sometimes it doesnt.
