Scientists are priming two spacecraft to slam into the moon's South Pole to see if the lunar double whammy reveals hidden water ice.
The 4,400 pound (2,000 kg) impactor spacecraft is being setup now
and will slam into the Moons South Pole in Feb: 2009.
Its estimated it will raise over 1100 tons of debris, which will allow the Scientists to estimate exactly how much frozen water is locked up at the Moons South Pole.
This comes as the latest mission to apply brute force to science.
What ever we learn we will use in the next step, before a manned landing, whether its Rovers, or more impactors.

***Thoughts
Well thats one way to beat the opposition, by getting as near to the water as possible, for the future manned Moonbase.
