I'm new here and can't find if this has been started already. I've known very few "poor" of the type indicated, but have professional friends who work with them. Mostly the kids are in front of telly virtually all their indoor waking lives until starting school or nursery. You think you know how to get a baby to sleep: feed and cuddle, a nice song and he or she drops peacefully asleep (at least mine did). The other method is to dump infant into pen or seat, turn up telly so loud it drowns out the screams and eventually kid does sleep. My friends and I have seen this. It clearly must affect the developing brain and its ability to concentrate.
