I was torn between putting this under NQS and here. It's not directly about science. It's more about the merging of science with engineering, etc.

This particular video is about Aimee Mullins who uses prosthetic legs. I saw an article the other day about a fellow who had been blind for decades who had been outfitted with a bionic vision:

Anyway, if you don't receive the TED vids, they're generally outstanding.

if this isnt science then we might as well roll up the sidewalks of science and close the doors.

its in the right place.

It's the little things that inspire human interest, don'tcha think?
Tho I s'pose some think the mechanical approach to dissecting everything and putting it in a jar could get ya going...

Stuart Brown spoke about optimisation of the evolved function of play as a means of increasing psychological adaptability and innovativeness. Aimee Mullins focused on the functional and artistic optimisation of the human body through engineering. Both talks, as well as the Sci-Am "bionic" eye article, were about enhancing the quality of human life and society - two kinds of benefits to humanity, one derived from the application of science, the other discovered as a function naturally selected through evolution. I hope researchers continue to gain insights into evolved behavioural functions so that future bio-engineering, and perhaps certain prosthetics, can be attuned to it.
