Phys.OrgThe story is about a man who now has a 3D Printed prosthetic hand. The cost of materials for the hand was bout $50 US. The man was born with most of his left hand missing. He has used a number of prosthetic hands during his life, including a $45,000 job that works quite well. He gives this new one high marks for ease of use for many tasks. In many ways it isn't as 'good' as the expensive one but he likes it for driving and carrying grocery bags, among other things. It is pointed out that comparing the 2 different hands is not an apples to apples comparison. But it is a really good application.
This seems to be a really good answer to the question What is 3-D printing good for? And at that price it could open the door for a lot of people who for one reason or another cannot afford an expensive conventional prosthetic.
