some people might not agree with my views , it may even be
that most people might not agree with my views.

it doesnt really matter to me if people agree with my views.

as long as people hear my views then my views will have been shared with others who will be affected by the consequences
of events that will occur if my views become reality.

I view the earths climate as being involved in an approaching
global cooling event.

while most view the earths climate as being involved in an
approaching global warming event.

granted , I was one of those who was led to have that same
global warming view of the earth.

I even blamed the warming of the earths climate on human activity.

needless to say , I no longer have that view.

Im not saying that human activity does not affect the earths climate , but the degree of effect on the climate that human
activity represents is negligible compared to the natural cycles of cooling and warming that the earth is locked into
due to the earths orbit around our sun.

we cannot change the climate effectively through our activities
and the cooling that is approaching will come to us while we
are preparing for global warming.

prepare for cooling.

insulation.
generators.
food and water.
medical supplies.
evacuation routes.

LP or natural gas heating appliances that do not require electricity to operate.

blankets , gloves , boots , thermal underwear.

a UPS for communication , when electricity supplies fail
due to weighted down power lines.

keep a case of hand warmers and several blankets in your automobile and keep several days of canned ready to eat meals and water in your automobile in case you get trapped in your automobile or your automobile runs out of fuel.

configure a single room in your home or apartment to be used as
a survival shelter.

we humans cannot intervene , but we can prepare for what we
understand might happen.

if anyone knows of additional preparedness steps that should be
added feel free to post them here.

I would like to leave this thread open for the posting of
survival products and there associated web sites for people
to have direction to find any posted products that they
might deem necessary to obtain and I am requesting in advance that the moderators remove any derogatory replies in order
to maintain clarity and consistency.

Congratulations, Paul, you have caught up with what geologists have been saying for many years. smile

We are living in an interglacial period.

Previous interglacials have had considerable ups and downs of temperature, but, as far as I am aware, the form of the current variation is different from any other in the geological record. This, as you rightly point out, is probably due to human activity. It is fairly certain that there is another glaciation coming, but it is very unlikely that any of us will be around to suffer.

lets all hope that it will be a long time before the glaciation
arrives , but I wasnt speaking about the upcoming glaciation , I was however speaking about the approaching cooling.

which has already began and will precede any glaciation.

I suppose that the most expensive part of a gas heater installation in a home is the venting system , which can run into thousands of dollars which is why I believe that a ventless heater like this one would be better for emergency use.

or even for continued use , heating your home with ventless
gas heaters cost a fraction of what a vented heater cost
to operate because apx 70%-80% of the heat produced in a vented heater just goes up the vent pipe.

I have been using a ventless heater now for over 2 years, and it has made the living room and dining room quite comfortable--once it heats up. It takes a while to warm up first thing in the morning, but I have never had a problem with fumes of any kind. I have a CO detector right underneath it, and it has never gone off. Once in a while, when the heater hasn't been run for a while, it sets off the smoke alarm at the first lighting, but I have learned to not pay attention to it at those times. It's a great little heater and has an internal fan to blow the hot air out into the room rather than have it go straight up. It works for me.

I have two of these but not this particular brand name and one on
order , I didnt get the ones with fans because I didnt want to have to wire them into my emergency power circuitry that hasnt yet been installed , I have the generator though and extension
cords if needed.

I want to run a separate circuit for 12 volt to use in an
power outage.

this type of heater is also available in 6000 BTU for bathrooms
which is my next project!

it might take these a while to heat up the room initially
and I never leave my heater on at night but
for instant gratification heating I light it up then snuggle up to it and pull the bottom of my thermal underwear shirt out so that the heat rises up in the shirt , a few seconds of that and its like the middle of summer in the middle of winter in the middle of the night , LOL.

One thing that I kind of regret about central heating is the ability to come in out of the cold and go stand in front of the gas radiant heater to warm up. When I was young only rich people had central heat. We used open flame radiant heaters. We didn't worry about vents on them because the whole house was basically a vent. Houses weren't built super tight back then.

Live coverage from Atlanta on the current weather situation.
http://www.wsbtv.com/s/news/live/
For those people who are still trapped in their automobiles
in and around Atlanta Ga you can watch the WSB TV 2 continuing
news coverage for information , possibly for assistance locations
where temporary food and shelter with heat will be available
for those who have been trapped for long periods.

and to find which roads should be avoided. etc...

Survival experts recommend 2 gallons of water/person/day including drinking, food prep and sanitation. In case of radioactive fallout, plan/prepare to stay under cover for at least two weeks. Iodine tablets, a supply for each person. At least 1500 calories per day food calories, preferably 2000 or more calories per person per day. Plan for sanitation; everyone poops. Source of heat (folding stove, some sort of collapsing stand for alcohol heating. Pots, pans, something to boil water in. Do NOT barbecue or grill food outdoors, this is a clear sign that someone has food for which people will kill in extremis. Never underestimate the dangers of an unruly, hungry mob. Hungry people will reduce to the lowest common denominator, mob violence. A hungry mob that smells cooking food, especially meat, is no better than a wild wolf pack, and apt to slay the hand that feeds it. Expect disorder and chaos. The prepared will survive.

the poop problem , may be a blessing in disguise.

I've been thinking about this for the last day or so
and for a long term survival system with many inhabitants.

1500 - 2000 calories per day plus drinking water would equate to a volume of poop and urine excrement per day.

lets call this bio mass for now , or bio fuel.

the bio fuel could become a source of energy to provide heat
if the bio mass is allowed to convert into methane.

even a small bio mass converter system could provide heat and
cooking heat for a few individuals.

you will need bacteria in order to convert the bio mass into
methane.

the above product can do that job.

everyone can contribute to the sustainability of a survival
system this way as each persons body will produce the needed
bio mass that the energy systems require.

each person is then become a valued asset within the system.

how to build a methane digester

I forgot to mention that a methane digester will only work
in countries other than the United States , LOL.

but in countries outside the U.S. they work just fine , Im not certain exactly why the process only works outside the U.S.

just lie to the system that you build , tell it that its not
in the U.S.

I have to say that WSB TV 2 Atlanta has a Top Notch Professional News Team , the people in Atlanta seem to have adapted extremely well given the initial exposure a few weeks ago.

this is Expert News Coverage !
notice theres no cars stuck on the freeway , and hopefully
this time there will be no casualties.

We're not as bad as Atlanta here in Southeast Nebraska. It has at least been warm enough to melt the ice off of the major hill in our town, but that could change overnight. We've had a few light flurries today but nothing lasting. And people here know a thing or two about driving in snow and ice. We have studded tires and chains and windshield de-icer. And we know better than to go out in the first place in shuckish weather.

the CBS Evening News for FEB-12-2014

http://www.cbs.com/shows/cbs_evening_new...monuments-men-/

this years edition of the coming ice age could be translated into "the calm before the storm" , and the boy scouts motto
"BE PREPARED" , the southern states are learning a lot about
being prepared this winter.

the northern states already know what the southern states are learning.

many people have no electricity , no food , no heat , and whats
worse than that most have no extra money to get prepared for
next winter.

I dont have a TV subscription of any kind and I am sure that
many other people are moving away from the costly cable TV networks and if it were not for the few news and information web sites that offer live news and recorded news , I wouldnt
ever watch a TV commercial !!!

and TV commercials and advertisements are what supports TV channels and web sites that provide the news and information.

advertising on a TV channel that offers live news translates
into many millions of commercial viewers above the normal
number of viewers that only watch TV commercials on TV sets.
