I just found this report on Phys.Org

According to the report a team of astronomers from Sweden and Finland have been studying free floating planets, that is planets that don't orbit stars. It has been assumed that these planets were ejected from stellar systems. But the new study suggests that many of them may be formed in free space and have never been associated with a star. They have found some free floating clouds of dust that appear to have very dense cores. They think that they are formed from clouds of dust ejected from the dust in star forming regions.
