Hundreds of socialists, environmentalists and climate activists attended the first Ecosocialist Conference in New York City last month. One of the featured speakers at the conference was Jill Stein, the nominee of the Green Party during the 2012 national election in the US, who held a talk about how capitalism is killing the planet. Jill Stein: Why capitalism is killing the planet? Original Link: green planet http://www.green-blog.org/2013/05/15/jill-stein-why-capitalism-is-killing-the-planet/

Capitalism isn't killing the planet , free trade is what is killing the planet.
free trade can be rounded down to greed / profit no matter what excuses you hear or have heard.
globalization is nothing more than slavery of the masses geared toward greed / profit.
Capitalism is better than most forms of government because it allows advancement of individuals , without Capitalism the only choices you will have will be determined by the communist or socialist rulers.
China is a communist nation. China would not have a dime without Capitalism. China could not exist without Capitalism.
the United States is not communist ( its mostly Capitalist ). the United States does not have a dime because of the globalist free trade. the United States can exist without free trade.
in fact the United States would quickly prosper without the globalist induced free trade because of Capitalism.
because of Capitalism!
but we would have to vote or kick the globalist out of office and change the trade laws in order to prosper once again.

Capitalism? About what kind of capitalism are we talking, eh? As we say in--C eh!, N eh! D eh!... Canada, ... eh? The selfish kind? Or, the democratic kind? Let us be more specific, eh! Me? I like to think it is possible to be a democratic capitalist who appreciates the values of democratic socialists. We can work together, eh? A FEATHERS APPROACH TO THE POLITICAL ECONOMY--is it possible? Feathers are very democratic. They cover the whole bird, not just the wings--left and right, eh? BTW, think about the tail feathers, and where they are located--right over the anus, eh? This is the role of government, eh? If you ask, I will elaborate, eh?

If you ask, I will elaborate, eh? ok, so if I don't ask then you won't tell? I choose to not ask as I might not be capable of structuring your reply into something that my mind could assemble a degree of useful information into.

You say, "...as I might not be capable of structuring your reply into something that my mind could assemble a degree of useful information into." My reply? Are you a mind reader, who already knows what my reply would be? Cool! If so, let me know. Have no fear! I would be singularly impressed...and think of it as BTW, do you happen to be a student of economics, the "dismal science" as Thomas Carlyle described it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_dismal_science

Kremer: Is mind-reading--a privacy issue I think--without permission allowed in SAGG science sections? I hope not. My wife, of course, took her licence, which she had me agree to in the wedding vows, 60 yrs ago, last September.

rev ok , you seem to have caught me in the act of reading your mind. however you have nothing to fear because it was more like reading a script from gilligans island blended in with an episode of doctor who , with excerpts from old disney movies inserted every page or two. nothing there that you could claim as being privately owned. more like a modern mashup of other peoples acquired information tossed together to represent something that you think is worthwhile. however , if you want to protect what you consider private information from being sucked from your brain you might consider purchasing a anti mind reading device such as the one pictured below to give you a sense of privacy protection and well being. 100% tested , the above device has shown in clinical test to be 100% effective in blocking mind reading waves.

I don't know 'why?' capitalism is killing the planet, as in "what is the motivation for capitalism?"--- unless the answer is is obvious one--- greed. However I agree that capitalism is, in conjunction with its cousin globalisation, in fact ruining the lives of many on our planet.
A financial system that puts the possession of individual, personal wealth for some, ahead of the welfare of all its citizens, is a callous system, and bound to fail eventually.

Interesting how capitalism is being linked to earth's destruction.
But thinking of it, it makes sense.
I'm Peter, and I'm new to the site.
Enjoying this discussion so far.
