Not a totally new date. This report in Phys.Org:Out of Africa date brought forward references a study made on the mitochondrial DNA (MtDNA) from the remains of ancient modern humans to estimate the rate of genetic mutations. They used 6 well dated mummies that were from 14,000 to 53,000 years old. They used the MtDNA to calibrate the mutation rate and found a higher mutation rate than had been used in previous genetic studies of the Out of Africa dates. The range they produced was from 62,000 to 92,000 years ago. This fits fairly nicely with archaeological evidence, but is later than earlier genetic estimates.
