Fossils hint at distant cousins to our ancestors Phys.org has this report on a new study by Maeve Leakey and others that they have found 2 new species from around 2 to 2.5 million years ago that are our cousins. This is generally in agreement with the books I have by Ian Tattersall. Ian feels that there was not a straight line from our earliest ancestors to us. Instead there were a lot of hominid species in Africa around the same time. Some people still cling to the idea that there was pretty much of a straight line from Lucy to us. The multiple species idea makes pretty good sense to me.
