Ok, forum denizens, time's up. There have been complaints regarding the amount of religious affiliated posts lately. I have been minded to practice a sort of Laissez-faire moderation, intending to let the forum be basically self-moderating, and you have not done the greatest job. You keep feeding the trolls. So now I am going to start editing heavily for content. If you make references to god(s) or religion(s) in a post be prepared to have it edited by me for content. The same goes for swearing, even if it disguised with asterisks or dashes or ellipses or what-not. I have zero tolerance for that kind of behavior.

Be warned. If I have to edit your posts, you may find your posting privileges revoked. It is a privilege to post here; it is not a right and should not be taken as such. If you cannot post on Science and Science-related topics, take your comments elsewhere. The only exception will be this thread; you may comment on anything you like in this thread, but no swearing or bad language.

Sincerely,

"Amaranth Rose"

YES! YES! YES!

'bout time!

But I want to see fire rather than smoke. Make the previously posted idiocies disappear and I will become a true believer.

Gresham's Law: crap floats. A rational forum absent rational thought requires skimming. This is not good or bad, it is simply a fact.

OK!

How about "Another nail in the coffin of creation"? Is that inciting religious response?

Haha... I find it funny that right after Amaranth posts this, he responds with this:

Some people seem to be a little slow on the uptake... wink

Things are disappearing?

A new member, name now gone, made a post along the lines of "my opinions". DA made some comments and the new member made a response. This exchange seems to be gone from the listings. The new member used a word that I am not familiar with and I wanted to look it up.

Amaranth, did you remove the post? Could DA Morgan have removed the post? Just curious.

jjw,
If you find a listing missing you may want to look at the Origins board. You can always find your recent postings by clicking on that function in your profile menu.

I have actually deleted very few posts, and deleting a post does not make the follow-up posts disappear unless it is the first post in line. Mainly I ame editing as they appear with follow ups or when a specific complaint is made.

Any member can edit their own posts; only moderators or forum management can delete at this time. I try to be as tolerant at possible without being too tolerant (Similar to Einstein's statementt that things should be as simple as possible but no simpler). The chances are your post was either edited or moved to the Origins board. If I deleted it, I'm sorry. I tend to leave interesting stuff up even if it goes off-topic a bit.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Peace and Health,

"Amaranth"

Amaranth, thank you.

IT WAS NOT MY POST. Some new member did it and it only had 2 replies, none by me. Thanks again.

For those of you who have not noticed, the forum is having a few technical difficulties. We are working on this. In the meantime, if you get an error message, please use your browser back button and try again. You will eventually get through. We hope to have this fixed relatively swiftly, so please bear with us.

Thank you. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Science forum.

Sincerely,

"Amaranth"

It's a problem at the hosting company apparently. I've been told "they're working on it..."

I have a thought, I don't know if you have any influence on this but I think there should be a policy that you should not be allowed to rate members unless you've posted at least 10 times.
This is because I regret some of my early ratings of people in this forum.

I personally think the entire rating system should be abolished.

People with zero credibility giving high ratings to people with zero credibility. Certainly a recipe for electoral politics and little else.

Kate, Rose, Rusty ... kill-file it.

Individuals can turn off their own ratings by de-selecting the apppropriate box in their profile. I have turned my rating off as I think it is not indicative of anything of value about me or the way I'm doing my job. The option exists; the choice is yours.

Don't be such a creeper Rob! You know the story about the man who was surrounded by a pride of lions together with an elephant. There was only one place to creep into to escape. Its too smelly in there. Rather get eaten.

I have moved the IQ discussion topic to the Origins board. Let's not have any more threats or I will start booting people. You have been warned.

Could you hide the Origins Board a little better? Someone might find it? ;-)

Seriously ... it is near impossible to find except by accident.

It's easy enough to find the Origins forum. Just click on the "Scienceagogo Forums" portion of the top line of the forum listing and it will take you to the place where forums are listed. Then click on the Origins forum. At present there are only two; there's capacity for more. smile

To protonbon's wife:
I deleted that posting immediately after I came upon it. I felt it was totally inappropriate and wasteful of time and space. I'm glad you raised an exception to it. Bear in mind that posts come from all over the world, and I do sleep a few hours every day, so offensive material may be up for some hours before I am able to get to it. I check the forum the first thing every day and the last thing every night, and oftentimes between those two times. I have a fairly wrecked schedule, and often it is noon before I am up and at it, which gives time for people in the rest of the world to put up things like the post in question for people to see. I assure you that sort of junk is deleted as rapidly as possible. You would not believe some of the stuff I've deleted from these pages. Some of it is gross beyond belief. I read everyting that goes up, and some of it hits the trash can before I finish reading the post.

I hope that helps. If you have further questions please feel free to PM me and I will try to answer them for you.

Sincerely,

Amaranth

Moderators,

When I go to the thread, "A Boolean Universe', it is just a blank grey window. No other threads are doing this so I presume it isn't my internet explorer.

Is it just me?

I've had the same problem recently. If you keep refreshing the window sometimes it will go ahead and load. I think it's a server problem. You might try logging in at a different time, though I realize some people don't have that option. The best I can say is keep trying, it will eventually clear up.

It's a cache problem. Let me know when it occurs and I can freshen the cache which should fix it.

Dear Forumites,
I have deleted recent posts that included an autolink, on the grounds that they are vulnerable to viruses. Please remember to take caution when clicking on links. Please do not post autolinks in this forum.
