Are we fat and listless because we eat processed sugars? Are we daft and feeble in old age because of trans fats?
In both cases our normal cellular metabolism is disrupted by industrial pollutants.
Processed sugars (sucrose and fructose) cause changes in the production of cellular enzymes that interfere with the normal enzymes that process glucose. Result: You crave more energy, but you don't process it efficiently, so you feel tired all the time. Welcome to America!
Meanwhile, hydrolyzed fats, or trans fats (margarine, other foods), disrupt proteins that process lipids, causing them to produce toxins that eventually cause plaque buildup up in the body or brain, later seen as multiple sclerosis or atherosclerosis, depending where the scarring gets bad enough.
http://www.scienceagogo.com/news/20111128002156data_trunc_sys.shtmlHow many other chronic diseases are caused by unnatural chemicals in our food? Makes you wish there was some sort of Food and Drug Administration to protect American citizens. Sigh, too bad.
It comes down to a food industry that maximizes profits in the short run by poisoning the public. The only answer is to eat natural food. Get away from cans, burgers, and other processed crap. It's making you fat, dumb and prone to heart attacks.
