It fires 1/4"d X 1" Capacitors out of a plastic barreled hand gun
No connecting wires are required.....the plastic Capacitor is charged up to 80Kv, and sticks onto your clothing.
Yikes!

Well I remember writing about this "Taser" without wires, over 3 years ago.
It seems that 80,000 volts is not enought to guarantee disablement.

So now the Met: Police are testing high powered long range Taser Rifles, and handguns. Both of which fire metal wired darts
into your skin or clothes.
Once attached to your body, you can be 'tased' repeatedly. (very dangerous)

Although I am not in favour of these new Electronic guns, their advantages over bullet fired handguns, should be obvious?

My problem is that handguns are used to kill, but if used with with care, can disable
But Tasers are used to disable, but if used without care, often kill.

I believe, if you use a gun not designed to kill, the tendancy would be to fire it more often?
This seems to be born out by the number of people killed by Tasers in the USA.
Thats 334 killed over two years (as stated in the URL below.)
Our British Police are now asking for an additional 15,000 Taser Guns, to add to their armoury.

A barbaric tool that may be used against innocent and guilty alike without reference to a court of law, and known to have caused death hundreds of times. An example of the appalling and shameless misapplication of technology of that gives science a bad name. It gives the lie to so-called 'civilised' society.

As you correctly say Rede, this particular Stun Gun is a
barbaric and shameless misapplication of technology.

Here is a Hi-definition picture of this new Taser Gun, that can fire up to 5 charged Capacitors at an unfortunate subject, from 100ft away. The vibrating Hi-voltage charge lasts for 20 seconds, thats four times longer than a conventional Taser gun, and ensuring that not only do you collapse, but insures your muscles go into spasm as well.
This is the unit that has caused a lot of deaths in the USA

Be sure to watch the `Video at the end of the URL.

P.S I think they have made a mistake in stating the capacitor projectile releases a charge of just 500 volts?

Thanks Mike.

The usual slick sales spiel. I suppose landmines were sold using the same template.

Opinion:

For a nation already immersed in the grim mess of 'firearms for all', this device may be a less destructive alternative. But for the Home Office to authorise its use would be a serious retrograde step for British society and culture. Although dramatic progress has been made since the days of public flogging and village square execution, there's clearly a very long way to go before history will portray us as we would like.
