Memento mori, for Martin Luther King.

I was too young and sheltered to know at the time...
...but thank you, now.

King's message was derived to combat what he saw as the major "3 evils."

Social Injustice (economic and racial)
Materialism (economic and spiritual)
Militarism (economic and political)

It wasn't just about racism;
it's the economy, stupid!

An integrative "science of civilization" would certainly include economics.

We have the resources and knowledge to make globally sustainable, equitable systems.
Forty years on, maybe we need to get back on track.

Pyrolysis creates reduced carbon! ...Time for the next step in our evolutionary symbiosis with fire.

You are so absolutely right! But somewhere we lost the fire, the will, the excitement of those times. There was progress in so many areas, racially, gender-based and politically. Then it all went pear-shaped and greed became good.

I was old enough to admire and commit to the people of the Civil Rights movement, the vision of the Kennedys and the feeling of change -as well as the Peace movement. Now I suppose I am too old to comment! It all seemed better and possible then.

Capitalism has deteriorated into materialism, social justice has become indifference and militarism has grown and flourished.

Can we hope that some of our new leaders emerging at the moment will be able to inspire the confidence that we need and that MLK and those who followed him were able to generate? It certainly is not an equitable world at the moment.

Any suggestions?
