S.African, US scientists find more 'hobbits' in Pacific

" JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - A team of scientists have discovered fossils of an extinct hobbit-like people on a Pacific Ocean island where they lived up to 3,000 years ago, a South African university has reported.

The former island cave inhabitants, some "as small as just over a metre", shared features with the controversial Homo floresiensis specimens discovered on the Indonesian island of Flores in 2004, said a statement from Johannesburg's Witwatersrand University (Wits) on Tuesday."

I know Mike Kremer posted on this topic earlier but I couldn't find it so I posted anew. Will these turn out to be a new race of humans, or are they just "stunted" as some researchers want us to believe?

If you're tired of looking at your VDU, there's a 5MB mp3 about it here:

...and if you've downloaded iTunes (or similar), I can recommend subscribing to NPR podcasts. They are good listening while you're commuting (or taking a bath or whatever!).

Alas, I don't commute, I don't even have a job. How do I get to NPR podcasts?

You'll find the NPR directory here:

To make things simple, it's very worthwhile to [link] download Apple's free 'iTunes' . In my opinion, this is exceptionally good software. It's a first rate way to find and download audio and video podcasts. You can use it to browse the 'iTunes Store' where you can subscribe to any of hundreds of podcast feeds (including NPR):

Here are a few of the dozens of science podcast sources:
