What would be the (currently insurmountable) technical difficulties of building a tower (sort of tubular in structure), from earth to out side our earths atmosphere.

(this site is always changing, if it aint broke don't fix it)

You mean other than gravity?

Put a stick in the ground ... does it stand upright?

Put a 10 kilo weight at the top of the stick to simulate the weight of a longer stick.

I've no doubt the answer will come to you rather quickly.
