Hi All

Though Stem cell research takes a step bak on the recent issue on Science by the Korean Scientist, I feel its still have a lot of promising and intriguing solutions for our mankind I want any one to start discussion on this topic with more news in research.

Stem cell did no such thing. Legitimate stem cell research performed by legitimate researchers is wholly unaffected.

One specific human individual disgraced himself: That's it.

Every form of human endeavour has its bad apple. The good thing about science is that it is self-correcting.

What we have here is a wonderful example of how science polices itself. Too bad other professions have never performed to our high-standard. The world would be a far far better place.

If science is so good at self policing itself, How come the truth (maybe) wasn't found out before being published in a peer reviewed publication?

Does 'peer reviewed' mean that the spelling has been checked?

Ok, lets get passed Justin David's first comment on Dr. Hwang Woo Suk. It seems that Justin's main question is about the potential benefits of future stem cell research.

This is the first I've heard of Dr. Hwang Woo Suk. Could someone enlighten me as to what he did, like post a link, maybe?

Hi all
This subject doesnt entirely has to be focussed on a person misdoing. Ofcourse they have already requested to revoke the paper on Science before they were brought to light. Anyhow its just being the part of the game in publishing.
here Lets get to see whether there is specific impact of stem cell engineering on the humans related to diseases. I feel one could revitalise a lost population using simply this stemcell replacement technique..any comments

Good gosh Rose ... don't they have the www.cnn.com out their in the heart of the red states? ;-)

Y asks:

It should have been. But peer review is a lot more than checking spelling ... but it is not performing the research again from scratch. What it is supposed to be is a careful read through by industry/technology experts to make sure that what is written is consistent with current science or that there exists reasonable proof that current science is in error.

It is impossible to know from what has been written in the lay press as to whether the reviewers were partially at fault for letting it through. But given that the dog cloning was apparently real they had little reason to disbelieve something undoubtedly well written and seemingly complete.

hi
this is all one could finally beleive that oneday or the other every damn extinct animal can be visualized in a zoo or somewhere meant for it environment. One dont beleive that what are the reasons that caused them to be extinct whether by human population explosion or by predator means..I still wonder what a mammoth could do if its brought to life...all just wonders..isnt it

with all the stemcell stuff one could easily recreate an amusement park aith extinct animals for us..

well if one doesnt seem to know much of the aspects of stem cells then I have to say it has the capability equal to that of cloning. When an animal during its development can be aborted it has a lot of potent embryonic stemcells. Ofcourse HUman umbilical chord is a valuable source of stemcells. People protect the umbilical cord instead of throwing it as a waste in Singapore. Now it seems they have a bank for storing your stemcells alive and fresh and costs a very little to save you from death
