That picture of Phobos is terrific.

Science seems to assume what is here today is for always. I know that is a great comfort zone but I wonder at the conviction supporting the viewpoint.

In 100 million years there could be a totally reorganized Solar System and little Phobos could be traveling to some distant galaxy. The calculations supporting the demise of Phobos are no doubt over my head but I would have enjoyed the confrontation.

You are correct that we tend to think of things as reasonably static ... lets face it ... within a few human lifetimes it generally is.

But then we all saw what happened to a comet that got too close to Jupiter not that long ago. So while we calculate one thing ... we are mindful that it may not turn out that way due to unconsidered factors.
