"ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- These fish jump. Oh, how they jump. It's common for an Asian carp to leap four feet out of the water and flop into whatever may rumble into its path, be it watercraft or fisherman. They also make a big splash. A 60-pounder is not unusual.

"Every day we go out on the water, the number of fish we see jumping around the boat is just astounding. It's incomprehensible," said Mark Pegg, a fisheries biologist for the Illinois Natural History Survey. "You just have to see it to realize there are that many fish jumping around you.""

Exotic species can cause BIG problems in new habitats. A big headache if one were to jump and smack you on the head. Any ideas for damage control?

Ban all people from the area. Vigorously patrol the area and impose massive fines to have it be self-financing. Shoot to wound.

Bloody Hell. If there is a problem, fix it or stop complaining.

I was hoping for some more practical ideas about ameliorating the fish population. Maybe making carp caviar a desirable commodity would make these fish desirable specimens instead of a massive nuisance. Having eaten same I can attest to its delicate texture and flavor. Too bad it hasn't caught on with the rest of the world.

Oh come on Al ... this is America.

If a fish smacks you ... sue 'em for damages.

It's the American way.

By bringing new species you have triggered a metamorphosis of the then existing ecosystem.
Native species were peace loving and lazy so they are getting overwhelmed by these cruel and active new species both will have to learn how to survive in this new environment,
They could have survived each other but the real problem is MAN...
He will not let anyone of them exist for long...
We should do something about it.
