GALILEO, is the joint European, Union-European Space Agency initiative for a global navigation system. It comprises a constellation of 30 satellites orbiting at an altitude of 23,300km and due to become fully operational worldwide within 4 years.
A conference on the "Future of Transatlantic Military Space Relations" was held in London earlier this month. Amongst those that arrived were:-- Robert Dickman, (deputy for military space) US Dept of Defense Major General Robert Kehler, director US National Security Space office. General Michael Hamel, commander 14th Air Force,USAF Space Command Peter Teets, undersecretary of the US Airforce
The GALILEO global positioning system, is remarkable, not least due to its ability to precisely position objects on Earth, to within inches, it allows military forces to attack with absolute precision. You would think that the Americans, as allies, would welcome such awsome help.
But no,- the Americans very calmly announced to Brussels, at this conference, that "They would Attack EU Satellites in Wartime"
When question regarding the meaning of "wartime". They stated that since China had become a partner in this $4.5 bn European venture. That should China use the GALILEO system to pinpoint and ever attack Taiwanese forces. That would be 'wartime' (They obviously are not happy that China has become a European partner in this Hi-Tech venture)
The Americans made it clear that they would immediately deploy what they call 'a reversible jamming action' upon our European satellites. If this failed it would use their 'Attack Satellites (coded XSS-11) to destroy one or more of GALILEO'S units in an uprecedented Star Wars style raid. **Thoughts To me this means that the Anglo/European alliance is quietly splitting at its seams.. The Iraq War was a humbling experience for the American led coalition. I cannot understand why they would now upset their Anglo/European allies with putting out the above statements. On an event, or events that may not ever happen.**
Prehaps its all due to us rejecting America's Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS) which I might add is also currently used by European taxis Aircraft, and Shipping, as well as stolen vehicles, vehicle/hand mapping systems and much more. The Americans have offered their system free to end users here, but it has been rejected by the EU, for political reasons. Brussels argued that European troops/vehicles should not rely upon Navigational systems "out of European control" Which is why Europe has sunk $4.5bn into a rival system (Galileo). It is fast becoming the network of choice for an increasingly US-sceptic world.
So now we know. The above precis were taken from various Military and European articles including the financial 'Business' due out tomorrow.

Alot of people here in the states believe that they are the lucky ones who are the right color, nationality, relegion, ethics, etc.., and that everyone else is wrong and a threat. Our politicians are no different. Anything we have that can be used by ourselves, for ourselves against others is ok for us to have, but not for anyone else to have unles we have ultimate control over it.

You were doing pretty well until you put in "XSS-11" as though it was some kind of satellite-killer technology the U.S. has deployed. The first XSS-11 hasn't even been launched yet.
We have enough scare-tactic nonsense coming out of our president ... we don't need pure drivel like this put out too.
Try demonstrating some maturity.

No it has'nt not yet. But US killer satellite XSS-10 HAS been launched, back in Jan; last year. It cost you guys $40million and was a total success. It approached and receeded to within a few feet of the spent booster rocket that sent it up. It did this three times. A total sucess.
Dont hide your head in the sand. Wake up to what your Military are planning and doing. Its not scaremongering its factual truth. XSS-11 might never be launched because its probably been superceeded by XSS-12. Its certain that US killer Sats: will be deployed sometime in the future. Since South American, Arabic, and Chinese Satellites, might be considered a threat by the US and even by the EU sometime in the future. The articles that I found are sometimes difficult to aquire, but the people I mentioned and the London Military Space meeting earlier this month was real enough. Including the US comment. (thats all on one line)

Hmm, it'd be a pretty short war if the only people with a GPS were the United States. Then again Iraq isn't exactly all-over and those militants don't have that techy stuff...

We could always hope similar efforts might be invested in stopping wars from starting in the first place but alas that's not what testosterone, nationalism, patriotism, and religion are all about.
So everyone will be making trips to their local boating store, buying a GPS, and wiring it to something that goes bang or boom.
