I have been using a brainwave entrainment CD for a few months now. Not sure that it helps with brainpower yet, but it sure puts me into a deep meditative state.

Have any of you used these yet, and what results have you gotten?

Timothy Leary sought to expand his mind with hallucinogens. All it did was escape him. As for meditation... where will idling a race car in neutral ever get you? The whole of India has fewer flush toilets than the state of Colorado. Meditate on that.

My wife believes I?m in a permanent state of meditation. Moreover, I make sure I enter into a deeper meditation when its time to mow the lawn. wink

Does this mean a kind of blank mind? I have found it to be unattainable for me. When I was much younger I would at times lie in bed before going to sleep and practice deep breathing exercises. I could simulate some sensations like making my skin itch or tingle and I thought I was learning something. On one night after about ten minutes of this I felt fingers rubbing the top of my head firmly, right in the center, and it scared the hell out of me. I gave up the search. I know I have probably opened the door for the three musketeers to jump all over this comment, but it is true and even today it gives me the creeps to recall the experience.

So, my question to you is, what do you feel is accomplished by your getting into a deep meditative state?

LoL Uncle Al. You're about 40 years out of date my friend. Using meditation(self or audio) to change your brainwave frequencies is extremely healthy.
It's very similar to the exact same processes your brain goes thru while asleep, falling asleep, and waking up. Hormone management & creation, immunine system enhancements, ease of tension on the muscles, regulated neurotransmitters, stabalized metabolism, better use of vitamins, minerals, amino acid's and so on,bodily repair and balance with DHEA & HGH along with all the others and on and on. With more precise enterainment, one can target specific area's in the brain to perform certain tasks. EEG's have proven this hundreds of times along with blood tests accompinied by many other tests. A large portion that your brain can do you can promote with the enterainment audio tones...good and bad. So far it's been shown to be very very helpful for overall health and vitality.

Nonsense. Find a single peer reviewed study published in a respected journal that supports your statement.

Want to find the healthiest people on the planet? Better look in Japan and Sweden. When you find them engaged in "self or audio" meditation let me know.

So much BS ... good thing we have the internet to spew it about.

I think people generally have a dismissive attitude towards meditation as it it is usually lumped in with a whole lot of other mystical Eastern mumbo-jumbo.

BTW, you certainly don't need any sort of brain wave machine or contraption to meditate.

I read the link with interest and quote-

Most of the brain regions identified to be changed through meditation were found in the right hemisphere, which is essential for sustaining attention. And attention is the focus of the meditation.

Other forms of yoga and meditation likely have a similar impact on brain structure, the researchers speculate, but each tradition probably has a slightly different pattern of cortical thickening based on the specific mental exercises involved."

What they failed to build on is whether the thickening they tout is proof of any thing of measure, more memory, more potential intellegence or more of anything better except a potential thickening of gray matter. Possibly the "mere" thickening of brain parts is accepted as proof of things wherein I know not of?

I would imagine they simply have an ability to focus concentration better than they used to. Obvious statement really. I would imagine you will find similar brain structure changes in people with professions or interests that require great focus. I don't think meditation has the monopoly here.

All these things we endure from the brain when it is not healthy, but it becomes abnormally hot, cold, moist, or dry, or suffers any other unnatural affection".
All offered to show epilepsy was organic.

When I first began active trial work and had to confront various physicians on their conclusions I bacame very curious about the location of some of our knowledge of things. An example at first was the fingers. I at one time, over dinner, asked a medical specialist if it was not possible that some of the required motions of our fingers was stored in the fingers themselves. I know it sounds silly and possibly a little extra ignorant. It didn't come accross that way to the physician but he rejected the idea with conviction. I think watching a true artist play a really difficult musical score on a piano caused me to get the idea. That and conversations with some amputees wherein the loss seemed to be greater than just the digit or the limb. Just another wasted mind game.
