If life ever did form on Mars the one thing I am confident of is it would not easily be extinguished especially bacteria.

We see the same behaviour here on Earth

Deepest claybeds (http://phys.org/news/2012-05-bacteria-alive-million-year-old-seabed-clay.html)

Evolving rapidly in abandoned mines (http://phys.org/news/2012-04-quickly-bacteria-evolve.html)

In toxic chemical conditions (http://phys.org/news/2012-04-toxic-menu-marine-worm-carbon.html)

I believe in "Evil, Bad, Ungodly fantasy science and maths", so I am undoubtedly wrong to you.
