We don’t have much power to change the universe. Fortunately. It was probably good that 20th Century materialists didn’t possess such creative authority, and I suspect no single organism should be trusted with such power. The universe creates itself - democratically. Each bit of life has some very limited ability to change itself, purposefully and intelligently, in response to environmental pressures. Instead of regarding myself as an impotent observer of a mechanical reality, I prefer to see myself as a participant in a creative universe.
