Good going--it'll be interesting to hear what happens.

Salt would probably kill the bacteria (preservative--as you say).

I'm not very electric-circuit minded, but don't you want one electrode in the bucket and the other "grounded" somewhere else? I really don't know about that stuff.

I know I've seen a demo of this setup somewhere on the net.
I'll look around and see if I can find it.
