The article says the discovery:

But evolution is always complicated. It's not a straight line from ape to human so why should it be a straight line from dinosaur to bird?

Also from the article:

"Just a few million years after Gigantoraptor evolved, it and every other dinosaur species on Earth became extinct."

Hang on. It seems dinosaurs didn't become extinct. They're still with us.
