His explanation for this disgusting example of the atrocities of war was that it was political theatre. There was NO tactical reason to bomb Dresden, and the war was not shortened in any way. It was an awful brutal act, and one which was hushed uo for years. My father was in WW2 and was at Dunkirk. He survived being blown up. He never talked about the war, and brought us to Australia to get away from his memories I believe. (Good thing too, it's nice here-though it used to be nicer).The point about Vonnegut was that he could remain objective about it, and point out, amid a lot of controversy and criticism, what truly happened at Dresden.

On the subject of casualties. In the paper this morning there is an article claiming that perhaps there were only 40-50, 000 deaths. The coverup continues.
